9 Screen Analysis
This is the video for "this is war" by 30 seconds to Mars, although im not a massive fan of the song I think the video is excellent.
The first screen is of the words "if we don't end war" which is a famous quote by historian H. G. Wells. this is the first part of the video and relates to the title of the song.
The second shot came just after the quote, showing a computer generated image of the earth with coordinates around it like you might see in a military action film.
Screen 3 comes later in the song, you can see the silhouette of a soldier with a sunset background, again this is something you would usually see in a film rather than a music video. it also relates to the lyrics and title of the song which are all about war.
The fourth shot is of another soldier in a desert firing a gun, the props and editing of this suggest that the directors went for a full cinematic experience in the video rather than a cheap rock video.
The next two shots appear in a montage of clips from older wars and events, they have been edited into a montage with wars from throughout history.
Picture 7 is a shot of metal shrapnel and vehicles flying through the air, the shot seems to be a point of view shot because the camera was unsteady and shaky as if the person was running, it also has computer generated effects such as co ordinates and a lens flicker as if you were looking through a security camera.
The next shot is a close up of a soldier, showing his reaction to seeing the metal objects flying through the air, again there are effects over the camera to make it seem more military like, as if you were watching him through a camera.
The final shot shows all of the metal gathering in the sky to form the well known logo of the band, this then fades out to finish the video.
This video is typical of 30 seconds to Mars,. they always make their videos more like a film and are great to watch but probably very costly.
